What Is OdysseyGuessr? The GeoGuessr Game for Super Mario Odyssey Fans

July 11, 2026 · 6 min read

If you have ever played GeoGuessr, you know the feeling: you are dropped somewhere in the world with nothing but your eyes and your instincts, and you have to work out where you are. OdysseyGuessr takes that exact feeling and moves it into the kingdoms of Super Mario Odyssey. You get a screenshot. You get a map. You get one guess.

The idea in one sentence

OdysseyGuessr is a free, fan-made browser game where you are shown a screenshot from Super Mario Odyssey and have to pin the exact spot it was taken on the correct kingdom map.

How a round works

  1. A random screenshot from the community pool appears full-screen. You can zoom and pan it like a photo.
  2. You open the map in the corner and choose which of the 17 kingdoms you think it belongs to.
  3. You zoom into the map and click the exact spot you believe the shot was taken from.
  4. You press Guess. The camera flies from your pin to the real location and your score animates in.

Scoring is strict on purpose

Each round is worth up to 5000 points. Guess the wrong kingdom and you walk away with nothing — there is no partial credit for being in the neighbourhood. Guess the right kingdom and the rest depends on distance: a pin right on top of the target is a perfect score, and points drop off quickly as you drift. That strictness is what makes a 5000 feel earned.

Play alone or against other people

Single-player lets you pick 3, 5, 10 or a custom number of rounds, with an optional timer. Multiplayer puts up to four players in the same lobby with a shared HP pool: everyone guesses the same screenshot, the closest guess deals damage to everyone else, and the last player standing wins. There is a private lobby code for friends and a Quick Match button if you just want an opponent right now.

Every screenshot comes from players

The image pool is community-driven. Signed-in players can upload their own screenshots, mark the kingdom and pin the exact location, and once a moderator approves the submission it enters the rotation for everyone. That means the pool keeps growing and even veterans keep running into places they have never had to identify before.

Why Mario Odyssey works so well for this

  • Seventeen kingdoms with wildly different art direction — you can often name the kingdom from the skybox alone.
  • Dense, hand-crafted maps: within a kingdom, the details actually matter, so the distance part of the score is a real skill test.
  • Strong landmarks (New Donk City Hall, the Inverted Pyramid, Mount Volbono) that give you anchors to triangulate from.
  • Enough visual repetition inside each kingdom that the hard rounds are genuinely hard.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

The game is free and you can play single-player rounds without an account. An account is only needed for multiplayer, for submitting your own screenshots, and for keeping a nickname next to your HP bar.
